I can't imagine shelling out the cash it would take to go to the cinema enough times to have seen enough films that I had to cut the list down to a top 10 per year. I'm seeing Wire actors all over the place now on the small and large screens. Of course, they gotta pay the rent somehow. And the RYM donations. Bubbles does a splendid job in the label queue. Or maybe that's randakk. They do spend a lot of time in Maryland, though.RedZeppelin @ 01/07/2009 08:06 PM : Re: scientific attempt at most wanted and least wanted song
Komar & Melamid and David Soldier's list of undesirable elements included holiday music, bagpipes, pipe organ, a children's chorus and the concept of children in general (really?), Wal-Mart, cowboys, political jingoism, George Stephanopoulos, Coca Cola, bossanova synths, banjo ferocity, harp glissandos, oompah-ing tubas
sounds like Sufjan StevensTorc @ 01/07/2009 08:05 PM : Re: Pearl Jam live (and others?)
I feel some pain and lightheadedness when I have to do that, yes.Genesis_Jaime @ 01/07/2009 08:04 PM : Re: Top 10 of 2008

His guitar work on The Dance is amazing, especially that melodically flowing part-Spanish/part-classical style on the lighter songs. What sort of guitar is that... [wi:LBTD] ?joshua_henry_snape @ 01/07/2009 08:02 PM : Ironically, the bands mentioned on here are quite popular.
Devil Doll to me really are teetering on the edge between experimental rock and experimental metal. The guitars (albeit rarely prominent) have a certain aesthetic of metal music even if they aren't particularly that heavy or chaotic. The vocals have that "I am the lord of insert generic ominous name of place" attitude and it's all a bit dark. Can't really put my finger on why but to me they are metal. Even the pianos through "Eliogabulus" are as metallic as zinc.divided @ 01/07/2009 08:00 PM : Re: Medieval significance in Metal Music???
medieval history was awesome. who wouldn't want to be a part of that? and, it's a big part of history, especially european history. what do we (Americans) have to sing about? the civil war?elgringocolombiano @ 01/07/2009 08:00 PM :
G.O.Z. said: I will agree that post-Soul Survivor Pete Rock wasn't the same calibur as Pete Rock of the early/mid '90s, but I hardly consider that "falling off". The beats on PeteStrumentals... imho PeteStrumentals is a dope slept-on instrumental hip hop album. imho, superior to the stanned-on J Dilla "Donuts", for instance.streetmouse @ 01/07/2009 07:59 PM :

those are both hilarious. most unwanted? i'd listen to that a hundred times before i'd listen to anything by nirvana.RockMonster @ 01/07/2009 07:56 PM :

I just got Tusk only because Kronz said it's so great with such conviction, I hope it is, I don't like throwing money away. And I like Fleetwood Mac a lot. The Peter Green era is great, so is the post-Green era, I love Mystery to Me and Rumours. Gonna buy the self titled probably next week.G.O.Z. @ 01/07/2009 07:55 PM :
Frankly, it's incredibly stupid when black people use the "N" word so loosely and irresponsibly. I understand that they use it so much to try and make it less taboo, but the whole damn purpose is defeated when you're gonna be offended anyway when a non-black person uses it. How's a brotha gonna go around saying "nigga nigga nigga" like it's nothing and then turn around and take offense when one of his non-black friends says it? Either the word is offensive or it's not.hopalong_ @ 01/07/2009 07:55 PM : Top 10 of 2008
I do this geeky thing every year where I make a Top 10 of the best films I've seen in the cinema the last year. So for 2008: 1. Diving Bell and the Butterfly 2. Wall*E 3. Gone Baby Gone 4. Waltz with Bashir 5. Young @ Heart 6. The Visitor 7. King of Kong 8. Up the Yangtze 9. Dark Knight 10. You, The Living I do watch a lot of bad films each year, but there's always plenty of good ones as well. Worst: Max Payne

Alison Krauss So Long So Wrong Country Music Cd Review
By Clyde Lee Dennis

So Long So Wrong is the latest Country CD put out by the extremely talented Alison Krauss who once again has delivered a brilliant collection of tracks. I’m confident Alison Krauss fans, and Country fans alike will be pleased with this one.

This one grabs your attention right from the beginning with So Long, So Wrong and won’t let go until the very last note of the very last song There Is A Reason, which by the way is another great track.

Alison Krauss possesses the characteristic of being able to win you over with her talent alone. The kind of artist I frankly just flat out enjoy listening to.

Overall So Long So Wrong is an outstanding release. What I call must have music. I give it two thumbs up and is most definitely a worthy addition to any Country collection. Truly an outstanding Country CD. One of those that is completely void of any wasted time, as each track is simply superb.

While this entire CD is really very good some of my favorites are track 1 - So Long, So Wrong, track 9 - I'll Remember You, Love, In My Prayers, and track 14 - There Is A Reason

My Bonus Pick, and the one that got Sore [...as in "Stuck On REpeat"] is track 8 - Find My Way

Seela and Lala
Yesterday I made my first ever visit to End of an Ear to hear Seela and 3/4 of Torch do a record release show for their latest, Charmed.
I CAN HAS SQUIRRELATOR?
My small contribution to the lolcats meme.
Aestheticians and infrastructuralists
I'm enjoying the Kerr/Vielmetti cabal's Weird Professional Identity Descriptions.
Texas claustrophobia, and a mystery town
There are times when the miles and miles of Texas feel like walls, not spaces.
Mueller spillover with a modern touch
Depressed at Mueller prices I drove the nearby neighborhoods and found some aesthetic relief, if no hopeful signs for my wallet.
Grokking grok
Here's a shock: young people don't grok grok.
Mueller marts, both mega and mini
At Tuesday's Mueller meeting, Jim Adams of ROMA Design had troubling things to say about grocery stores.
Bad news in the Mueller HOA
Thanks to Marcus Sanford, I now have copies of two of the Mueller Homeowners' Association documents and they're not a pretty sight.
My Mueller HOAphobia
As part of my Mueller research I've also asked about the homeowner's association.
Mueller Central phase 1 layout and prices
Tuesday and Wednesday I made it into Mueller Central and an affordable home seminar offered by Catellus and David Weekley.

Back To My Heart. This is a great track!
