Natural Gas Air Conditioning

Traditionally we associate natural gas as the source of energy for cooking food, boiling water, as fuel for vehicles, and even running huge commercial and industrial equipments. However, it would hardly occur to us that natural gas can also be used as a source of energy for cooling purposes. Many industries actually use natural gas as instead of electricity to meet the energy requirements of their air conditioners. The main reason to do so is the kind of savings that can be achieved by using natural gas instead of normal electricity.
The use of natural gas to generate power for air conditioners is not a very new concept. In fact, during the 1930s and 1940s, natural gas was used in the United States. It was only in that electricity was introduced to run cooling agents. The demand for natural gas cooling agents did not drop after electric cooling made its appearance. This was due to several reasons. First of all, the capital costs for a natural gas air conditioner were much less compared to a conventional electric air conditioners. The efficiency of these machines was also never quite a problem. And the electric rates were also much lower. But the electric air conditioners had their own sets of advantages and slowly it became so popular that the entire market was dominated by them. The natural gas air conditioners had declined sharply and by 1990 enjoyed only 5% of the market share.

This has also led to many industrialists and entrepreneurs to invest on natural gas air conditioners as they are now confident that the new devices would be able to handle the load.
